FRAMING ECOLOGIES,

TALES of VENICE

Share:

Since the turn of the century, large scale simulations of the global climate have been constructed and utilised to determine the scale and planetary impact of the climate crisis. These methods are accurate; yet, they fail to capture the social realities that environmental crises entail. Framing Ecologies, Tales of Venice explores forms of storytelling and narration focusing on environmental trauma, in a bid to account for communities (both human and other-than-human) that are systematically ignored by contemporary climate simulations. Taking the city of Venice and its lagoon as a case in point, we will produce an accumulative archive of traces, memories and stories that give voice to the environmental trauma registered within the site.

WHAT YOU

will GET

Connect with leading industry professionals
The studio is led by 2050+, a Milan-based agency whose projects include the Russian Pavilion at Architecture Biennale; exhibition design for museums in Lisbon and Venice; collaborations with Nike and Bulgari. It leads ADS8 - Data Matter, an architecture design studio at the Royal College of Art in London.
Discuss social, political and environmental issues
During the first week, we will be joined by agronomists, architects, artists and biologists, who will collectively speak to and nuance our understanding of the social, political and environmental issues in Venice.
Produce a project for your portfolio
We will work toward a practice of documentation as a mode of interrogation – one that stresses the importance of the processes we undertake collectively across the duration of the workshop.
