MODEL CITY -

The studio will explore the idea of creating a 'model' of the city of Venice through a process of site-analysis. Practitioners and students will engage in methods of drawing, model-making and photography to extract elements of Venice in the construction of a representation of this poignant city.
ABOUT THE COURSE
The workshop is framed as an a critical exploration of urban landscape, with the city of Venice as a case study.

This exploration will have the outcome of a design project inspired by notions of art, architecture and landscape, and taking the form of pieces of artistic, architectural and landscape installations within the city. It is of great importance that participants see the brief as a guide, and to bring to the workshop their own topics and concepts in relation to the project at hand.

Of key importance is that the interventions are seen as site specific exhibitions of architecture in the form of installations which express the essence of Venice. The interventions represent interpretations which take the form of a maquette of the city.

The dynamic relationships and idea exchanges with fellow students is so valuable. The course gave me sense of validation and calm regarding the direction of my career and personal path through the world of art and culture.

The networks I was able to create during last summer's course at the European Cultural Academy have enabled me to put together my first exhibition in Amsterdam, just as much as the exhibitions I viewed and all the knowledge I gained in Venice have.
